Ben Chekroun, the maître d’ of world famous NYC restaurant Le Bernadin, gives all new employees a list of 129 “cardinal sins.” These sins should kept in mind at all times. Supposedly, Chekroun can sense when one of these sins are being committed!

Here are some of my favorite sins from the list of 129. I based my choices on what personally turns me off in a restaurant. Notes in parenthesis are mine:

• Being too familiar or excessively chatty (just bring me my food please)

• Not repeating each item as the guest orders (I’m sure you have a terrific memory, but please say my order aloud and write it down)

• Holding glasses by the bowl or rim (gross!)

• Bandages on hand (super gross!)

• Excuses for anything-anytime (unless you’re a really cute waitress, I don’t want to hear it)

• Clearing plates without permission (Hey, I’m still picking at those onion rings)

There you have it. There are 123 other sins on Chekroun’s list, all of them completely reasonable.
